La Guajira is one of the departments of Colombia, home to Punta Gallinas , the northernmost point in South America . It is known for its desert landscapes, giant sand dunes, and beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters. It is also home to one of the country's most representative indigenous cultures, the Wayuu people.
The capital, Riohacha, can be reached by air on a 1-hour, 20-minute flight from Bogotá with Avianca and Latam airlines. Or by land from Santa Marta, just 4 hours away.

Day 1: Manaure, Uribia and Cabo de la Vela
We begin this adventure at 8:30 am, departing from Riohacha for Manaure, a trip of approximately 1 hour. At the Manaure Salt Flats, we will tour the salt ponds accompanied by a local native, who will teach us the traditional salt extraction process. We will then head to Cabo de La Vela, a trip of approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, we will have a typical regional lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit Playa Arcoiris, a place famous for the beautiful rainbows that form when the water hits the rocks. We will then hike up Pilón de Azúcar, a sacred site for the Wayúu community. We will have time to rest or swim at Playa Dorada. We will finish by watching the sunset at Playa Ojo de Agua or El Faro.
Day 2: Punta Gallinas, Taroa Dunes
After breakfast, we'll head for Punta Gallina, passing first by the wind farm, Portete Bay, and Honda Bay, where we'll have lunch. At the end, we'll continue our journey to the famous and impressive Taroa Dunes, where the desert meets the Caribbean Sea. Here, we'll have time to enjoy its crystal-clear waters. Then, we'll depart for the Casares Lookout to enjoy the beautiful views of the bay. At the end of the day, we'll reach the northernmost point in South America, the Punta Gallinas Lighthouse, where we can appreciate the beautiful sunset.
Day 3: Mayapo
Very early in the morning, after breakfast, we'll head out to the beaches of Mayapo for a trip of approximately 5 hours. Upon arrival, we'll have lunch featuring some of the most exquisite dishes of La Guajira cuisine, and we'll have time to enjoy the refreshing waters of the Mayapo Sea, one of the must-see destinations on your trip to La Guajira. We'll then head to Riohacha, where we'll spend our third night.
Day 4: Wayuu Rancheria or Flamingos
Option 1-Wayuu Rancheria: We'll head to a local rancheria where we'll experience one of Colombia's largest indigenous communities, the Wayuu people. We'll have an incredible experience participating in the culture's typical dances, painting our faces with symbolic patterns, and tasting delicious dishes like friche and their most popular drink, chirrinchi. At the end, we'll return to Riohacha to conclude our adventure.
Option 2-Flamingos: After breakfast, we'll depart for the Los Flamencos Wildlife Sanctuary, where the majestic pink birds await us in their natural habitat. We'll enjoy a boat ride on the Navío Quebrado Lagoon. After an adventurous morning, we'll enjoy a traditional lunch to recharge our batteries. We'll then have free time to relax on the beach, enjoying the sun and the sea. Finally, we'll head back to Riohacha.

- When passing through indigenous communities, please respect their privacy and do not take photos without their permission.
- Saltwater showers will be available; avoid opening your eyes and mouth; and brush your teeth with your purified water bottle.
